"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations"

After 5 weeks as chief officer, I am back again in my old position as training and safety officer. It will not be long before we depart Guinea, and set course to Las Palmas in Gran Canaria. It is a high priority that the crew of the Africa Mercy are trained to know what to do when there is an emergency, like a fire or if we need to abandon ship during our sail. Many times people come and go on the ship, and because of that it is hard to maintain standards of training within our crew.

We will continue with our operations for a couple of weeks and then we need to start the packing up process. We operate in different sites within the capital Conakry, and all of our equipment will need to be put back on the ship. This includes tents and landrovers on the dock which we use throughout the outreach, and need to be lifted onto the top deck. It will be a busy time for us over the next few weeks!

I am still working with the people who live on the garbage side. Every week we go there to give them some medical attention such as cleaning wounds. Once every 2 weeks they can collect food and now we have also started Bible studies. We have received a lot of money which we have used to buy food such as rice, onions, oil and beans and they can cook better food for themselves. Also we bought medication and have been able to provide a prosthetic leg for a young man who could not walk without crutches. Recently we took all the children of the garbage side to a big playground where they had a lot of fun!

In this letter I would also like to thank each one of you for your support. A school in Kampen collected money for school materials here,  and a Bible study group gave money for the Village of Solidarity, which is a community of handicapped people who live together in Conakry. My sister and brother in law organized a day of painting activities which raised money for the people who live on the garbage side, and I could mention many more examples! Thank you for prayer, that strengthens our faith to continue to bring the Good News that Jesus loves sinners and wants to forgive us all.

Thank you so much to all of you, for your support and involvement in God’s work.
Beautiful pictures to see in the slideshow.

Heey Daniel, thanks for sharing. Amazing to see God at work through a man after His heart. Many blessings and strength as you follow His footsteps..
