Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves,
for the rights of all who are destitute.
Speak up and judge fairly;
defend the rights of the poor and needy.

Proverbs 31:8-9

I like to share what happened a couple of days ago to my dear friend Stephen Solomon and myself when we were visiting people on a garbage side (around 200 people) in Conakry. During our first visit the people didn’t liked us so much. Strangers!

There are living several families on that garbage side. Children are sitting on broken, dirty benches and are playing with whatever they can find. Flies everywhere and the pigs are running around searching for food. The dirty smell reach you even when you are 30 or more meters away. 23 man are working and seaching for food between the garbage for their families. The garbage that they collect comes out of Guinea’s Capital, Conakry. For the work they do they earn around 25000-GNF each day. That’s around 3 รก 4 US dollar. Many of the young people who life there are addicted to alcohol and some are using drugs.

After a few visits we were invited to come into the chiefs house. They were so happy that we visited them! This is what they said to us:

We are so happy that you are visiting us and come into our place/house. We cannot offer you a drink because we don’t have. Also it doesn’t matter if you cannot help us, only your visit makes us already so happy! Many people don’t want to talk or see us because we are collecting garbage. That means that you belong to the lowest. Thank you so much for your visit. We believe that God send you to be with us. You accept us who we are.

Our prayer is that the garbage container will be removed to another place so that they don’t need to life between the garbage anymore and have a worthy place to live. We like to support them with food and some medicine, if needed. And if they want we to like to share The Good News with them. Jesus loves them so much and want to be a part of their lives. He died on the cross for their sins, so that they can receive a new life and become a child of God. What else do you need? Saved for eternity.

The people on the garbage side are so happy to see us each time we visit. They are such a blessing to us and a great example in many ways! It’s amazing how God works when you are available for Him. Knowing Jesus more and more in our lives is wonderful journey! Jesus say’s: “Come and follow Me”.

Greetings,
Daniel.
